The monitor provides wireless viewing in your choice of widescreen or conventional 4:3 formats. It connects through the included XA-117 connection box which transmits data directly from your trunk-mounted DVD changer, game system, or other compatible peripheral device. The screen offers adjustments such as brightness and contrast (dimmer) control to let you view images clearly in most lighting conditions. Here are some more information for Astro Safari Van:

When I was younger, I had my fair share of family vacations-- snow skiing trips, Disney Land, World, New Mexico. In retrospect, some of my favorite trips were the ones we took within Texas. In the summer of 1989, when I was eight years old, my family, brother, mother, and father (my sister wasn't born yet), loaded up in our Astro Mini Van and headed to Canyon, Texas, 25 miles outside of Amarillo. The point of the trip was to watch one of "the world's most popular outdoor musical dramas" TEXAS, and to take the Palo Duro Canyon tour.
The Canyon Tour
Palo Duro Canyon State Park , located outside the main city of Canyon, Texas, and considered to be "the Grand Canyon of Texas" opened to the public in July 1934. It contains 26,275 acres is 120 miles long and is as much as 20 miles wide. With a maximum depth of 800 feet, its elevation at the highest point is 3,500 feet above sea level. Some say Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the United States. The largest, the Grand Canyon, is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide, and 6,000 ft. deep.
The actual tour was breath taking. We surmounted the rocky terrain rode in one of those 30 - 50 tourist mobiles driven and narrated by our guide. He pointed out some memorable scenes and rock formations, but I was more excited about the roadrunners and lizards I saw for the first time. After the tour, and while awaiting the performance we spent time in the gift shop where my father let me buy my first pocket knife. I still have it.
TEXAS - The Musical
After the tour we watched, TEXAS, the musical. After the popularity of Oklahoma!, the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein which was later made into a motion picture in the 1950s, it seems Texans felt they needed a musical play too. TEXAS was born and the musical drama, as they call it, has been performed since the early 1960s. The play reminded of another I had seen three years earlier celebrating the sesquicentennial of Texas, 150 years of statehood.
The most memorable part in my eight-year old mind was when simulated lightening struck the amphitheater's rim. My father told me they probably used dynamite. It rattled my little body, and I felt a little sick the rest of the show. I am sure I would appreciate live special effects more now, much like the live Batman show at Six Flags.
On the way back from Canyon, we stopped alongside the historic Route 66 in Armadillo to see the Cadillac Ranch - an artist's commentary on the US's Golden Age. Twenty Cadillac shells with body styles from 1949 through 1963 stand nose first in a field for spectators to admire. The cars are completely graffitied, but it is still amazing, especially for an eight year old. In 1997, they had to be moved two miles west due to progress and development.
That trip to Palo Duro Canyon was definitely not the last family trip, but it was a memorable one. Texas has its attractions and its oddities, which makes me proud to live here.

Study Shows Chevy Blazer Has Highest Driver Fatality Rate
According to a recent study conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), General Motors Corp. vehicles had the highest and lowest driver fatality rates from 2002 through 2005. And the highest rate is linked to Chevy Blazers.
The study found that the Chevrolet Blazer which comes as a two-door, two-wheel drive SUV built from 2001 to 2004, had the highest rate of driver fatalities which amounts to 232 per million registered vehicles during the four-year duration.
The Blazer was launched in 1969 on the C/K pickup truck chassis that produces GM’s trucks. In 1970, the largest automaker introduced Jimmy - its own model of the truck which was produced until the arrival of GMC Yukon in 1992. The Blazer is replaced by the Chevrolet Tahoe which is now a full-size SUV.
The Blazer and Jimmy, based on the short wheelbase trucks, were made available with either four-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. Its long wheelbase sibling is called the Chevrolet Suburban. Both the K5 Blazer and the Jimmy were given fabulous removable tops for the first few years until 1976 when the half-cab body style was launched. In 1983, the S-10 Blazer and S-15 Jimmy, all smaller models, were introduced. The original Blazer and Jimmy remained in production until 1991.
GM’s Chevrolet Astro, on the other hand, is the recipient of the lowest rate with only seven fatalities per million registered vehicles. The Astro boasts of powerful auto parts that consist of engines, AEM intakes, radiators, filters and more. The midsize van, which has debuted in 1985, is engineered to compete with domestic rivals like the Dodge Caravan. The Astro shares the same platform with GMC Safari which is its sibling.
In connection with the rating, the Infiniti G35, BMW 7 Series and the Toyota 4Runner came next to the Chevrolet Astro. Additionally, the two-door Acura RSX had the second-highest rate with 202 driver deaths followed by the Nissan 350Z, with 193 deaths.
The Chevy Astro and Blazer went out of production in 2005.
Automakers said the study was limited in scope because it did not include factors such as driver behavior that could play a key role. "It's difficult to really draw much significance," said GM spokesman Alan Adler.
Nissan said its vehicles, including the 350Z, are designed to meet government safety regulations and the automaker's internal safety requirements. Chris Naughton, a spokesman for Acura parent Honda Motor Co., said that the Acura RSX had younger buyers, which could have contributed to its ranking.
The IIHS found the average death rate decreased from 110 from 1990 to 1994 to the current rate of 79 for the 2002 to 2005 period.

why doesnt the astro/safari have dual sliding doors like all the other vans? why no hybrid?
The astro/safari vans were discontinued in 2005 so that was a little too early to have a hybrid model. Dual rear doors would be a pretty good idea on those vans but unlike minivans, most astros had 2 captains chairs in the middle where most minivans have a bench seat and require the 2 doors to get in easyer. In the early days of minivans, they all had only 1 door and it wasnt untill recently when they made them with 2 rear doors. With just 2 cseats in the middle of the astro vans, it makes it easyer to get into those chairs and it had a small isle in the middle to get to the rear seat. not all astros had the 2 captains chairs but most did. I hope that helps.
