You are able to do DIY repairs for common automatic transmission problems. Modern cars have automated transmission and hence, these issues are very common and expensive. If you know the way to fix transmission problems, you'll lower your expenses and even if the issue needs a mechanic, you'll avoid being overcharged. The key elements in an automated transmission system are the bell housing, the gears, the transmission fluid, and the filter. The issues will be in either of these elements and the two scenarios are that the automobile does not move at all, or the automobile does not move smoothly.
Before fixing automated transmission issues, you need to diagnose the system to find out exactly what is wrong. A typical cause of transmission issues is low fluid level. You in all probability have an issue of low fluid level, when you have issues similar to low drive power, noisy or rough transmission, and transmission slips. You should check the fluid level several occasions a year - don't wait until you've got a problem. A low fluid degree can result in damage to the system. If the level keeps on dropping drastically, this is an indication that you've a leak. The system is a closed system and this implies there are only a few locations via which fluid can leak. These are at the selector shaft, the base of the filler tube, the drain hole, where the velocity sensor is mounted, between the engine and the transmission, and the radiator has a cooler. The way to repair the leaks is buying a sealant and protecting the leaking parts. Manufacturers often advocate the sealant to use.
Another frequent automated transmission issues is a clogged filter. The filter is an important component of the system and since its function is to filter out undesirable particles from the transmission fluid, it often is clogged frequently. If you do not fix the issue, there is a danger that not sufficient fluid will reach the gears, meaning there will be tear and wear, and there's a danger that massive chunks of particles could find their way to the gears, leading to the same problem. The repair for this problem is solely changing the clogged filter.
If the transmission is not downshifting or the pedal is totally down, the issue is likely to be the automobile's throttle valve cable. The way to fix that is removing and changing the cable. That is straightforward in most autos and particulars are found within the automobile's user manual. Before removing the cable, you need to first disable the automobile's airbag system to avoid the risk of accidental deployment.
If the automobile is starting in other gears, not parked or neutral, the issue is most probably to be the neutral start switch. To repair this problem, begin by disabling the automobile's airbag system, eradicating the cable from the automobile battery's negative terminal, and placing the automobile on neutral gear. Next, change the neutral start switch. Observe that the back-up lights system is linked to this system in most autos and so you want to verify that the back-up light bulbs and fuses are working properly.
I hope this guide gave you an insight into working with automatic cars. If you want to read more on the same, I suggest you read my article automatic transmission repair for more details.
Bmw E30 M3
The BMW M3 was a well thought out car, as development of the car begun as far back as 1981, and continued for almost six years prior to its total production in 1986. The original concept of the BMW M3 was grounded in foundations from the E30 3Series car, a famous performance car with rich background. The E30 M3 later would spawn and encourage numerous other models within the 3 Series. BMW Motorsport, previously produced the E12 M535i Saloons, M635Csi, and the M1 supercar, and those cars were designed for superior racing performance, but those cars could only garner limited appeal. The main idea about the E30 M3 was to snag a wider audience both on and off the racetrack. When the decision was made by "FISA's Group A" confirmed homologation, which stated that "5000 road cars should be produced within 12 months, with minimal changes but allowed changes to be made to the engine, drive train, and body". The actual production of the M3 took place at BMW, Munich, and BMW easily marketed and sold their 5000 M3's in order to enter "Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft"(DTM).
BMW created many different versions of the M3 in order to keep the car absolutely competitive under the stated rules, resulting in quite a number of enhanced models being delivered to the general public over a timeframe. The E30 M3 was very different from the remainder of the E30 family all round, especially regarding to appearance and performance. The E30 M3 was equipped with an altered, solid, increased aerodynamics precisely on body with "box flared" fenders so it can hold a broader track with broader, taller wheels and tires. The cabin silhouette was modified with a bigger and a sheerer raked back screen in order to refine high-speed airflow. The features that were unique to the M3 were a prominent wing and an elevated back deck. The M3 and the original E30 models shared only the hood and the roof, plus it also contained 3 times the "caster angle" than any other model. The M3 also shared its single piston calipers, larger wheel bearings, stub axles with the "E28 5 Series" model, and the car was only constructed as a left-hand drive car. The one factor that gave the M3 its true genius was its faultless balance, outstanding handling and a pure realistic driving experience that none could match.
The basis of the E30 M3's engine was evolved from the "BMW M88 inline, 6 block", the fundamental architecture and the valve train from "BMW's M1", and the later science from the "M6 inline, 6 cylinder". The E30 M3 was first introduced with a "2.3 litre 16 valve, 4 cylinder" engine, with a max power of 192bhp (143kW) and immediate acceleration from 0-60mph in 6.7 seconds, along with a top speed of 143 mph (230km/h). The M3's suspension was the essential design concept of the traditional E30 along with "gas pressurized dual Boge dampers", improved springs, along with powerful anti-roll bars positioned at the front and the back. The braking system embodied "Bosch ABS system" working simultaneously with 280mm ventilated discs at the front, and 282mm solid discs at the rear. The E30 M3 had a couple fascinating attributes, which included "Siamese-like pistons", an additional oil cooler positioned behind the spoiler, "a cast alloy sump", a unusually long "stroke camshaft" with the stroke (84mm) and the bore (93.4mm), resulting in 2302cc, and unique steering help with "quick ratio steering rack".
The E30 M3 unfolded as and rebuttal to the "1983 2.3 litres, 16 valve Mercedes Benz W201", out of which the M3 was more successful despite its big price tag. The M3 kept its heritage on the track radically triumphant as it obtained 12 various touring car championships titles between 1986-1991, and 13 various racing titles between 1987-1993. Over 18,000 various M3s were produced up until when the last cabriolet was turned out in 1991. BMW has no other car within their roster that has ever achieved and done so much for their namesake, as the M3 is still regarded as the number one racetrack performance car of all time.

Help with BMW head gasket.?
My friend drove my car home after dropping me off at work and whilst driving down the motorway the engine overheated and decreased in speed quite quickly from 80 to 60 to 40 to 20 miles per hour whilst she was trying to get onto the hard shoulder. Called the AA out and he confirmed head gasket had gone and it wasnt looking good. Apparently when car cooled down was able to refill with at least 2 ltrs of water. I was suprised by this as i always checked water level before long journeys and only ever had to top up with miminum amount. This is my second BMW and apparently theres a pressure release button next to water container i was supposed to press which i didnt know about. Please advise me about this. Also approx. how much do you think it will cost to replace head gasket at local garage (not BMW) and do you think alot more damage may of occured. ie. pistons if car was not stopped in time as overheating was great. Oil light and battery light came on permanently.
your friend drove the car.. without noticing the warnings and rise in temperature.. you shoul have never lent the car to anyone.. this did not happen by itself.. when you were riding in the car.. it would have gotten hot then.. something happined that is not being stated... to replace the head gaslet o would say 4or5 hours labor at 50to85 an hour plus the gaskets.. ok.
Special Report-Is Tesla the future or the new Government Motors?
Elon Musk, the chief executive and major investor behind Tesla Motors Inc , has sometimes taunted U.S. automakers, painting his fledgling company as everything Detroit would like to be if it could start over: cooler, greener and ensconced in a much better neighbourhood.
