This unique tool has been designed to allow for easy valve adjustment on most Toyotas overhead camshaft engines using spacer shims for valve adjustment. In operation, the tip of the pliers pushesbetween the spacer shim and the camshaft as the pliers are squeezed close. This action then moves the shim and its valve lifter down away from the camshaft lobe. In this down position the separate wedge tool is placed between the valve lifter ledge and the camshaft. This wedge tool then maintains a gap between the shim and the camshaft as the pliers are removed. The spacer shim can then be removed through this gap and replaced with one of the correct thickness. The valve lifters which are simply called as lifters follow camshaft lobe in the motor engines and function to close and open the valves in an engine. These are available in different formats and sizes. The selection depends on the camshaft that a lifter will ride upon. There is a form of hydraulic lifter that works with both flat tappet and roller tappets. These are also available in the more solid mechanical form for flat and roller types as well.
Each format of valve lifter has its pros and cons with it. Hydraulic flat lifter costs least among any format and are easy to handle. This is the reason that these are most widely used. They use oil pressure to move the push rods and ride on the camshaft's lobes. The best aspect of this type of filter is its ease to handle and maintain. On the other hand the major disadvantage being the revolution frequency and capability to pump up the valve with high engine revolutions per minute.
The mechanical valve lifter have similar type of working as that of hydraulic flat lifter, the difference being its pre-determined ability to drive the valve. It is quite expensive and also quite noisy. It requires continuous adjustment to ensure smooth working.
The roller valve lifters consist of steel wheel at the base of the lifter. This wheel operates along the camshaft's lobes. The machine is designed in such a way to produce minimum friction and maximum horsepower. Roller lifter is quite efficient and produces high horsepower along with saving fuel.

Automobile Engine Overhauls
If you have decided to begin an automobile engine overhaul, there are a number of steps required in order to prepare your engine and your workspace for this extensive task. When looking at an entire engine overhaul, typically the engine is removed from the vehicle chassis, rebuilding and/or replacing internal components in order to optimize engine performance.
You will need to find an appropriate place to work when performing any engine overhauling procedures. A level surface that has adequate space to move around in as well as storage for components and additional tools and parts is essential for smooth workings. An engine hoist is necessary to draw the engine out of your vehicle chassis and is typically on an A-frame that has portability for lifting and moving your engine in order to work on it.
Be sure to have all of the necessary tools required for any replacing or rebuilding of parts that you wish to do during your overhaul. Having separate drain pans and containers are essential for any fluids that you will need to drain and store during this process. Cleaning solvents, masking tape and even extra rags or paper towel should also be part of your tools and supplies list to help clean up any rebuilt engine parts or spills that may occur during your overhaul.
If you are new to engine overhauling, there are many places that provide complete engine overhaul kits pre-made and ready to use on your specific make and model of vehicle. Gasket kits, including valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets and even exhaust and intake manifold kits are just a few of the options available for pre-made automobile engine overhaul kits. Depending on your expertise, there are basic engine overhaul kits, Master and Deluxe kits available to cover any number of replacement parts or rebuilding for your engine.
Basic engine overhaul kits will typically include gaskets, piston rings and bearings sets, rod, cam and timing gear and chain sets, valve lifters, oil pump kits, and other oil and lube options. Master kits can add additional options to the Basic kit such as rocker arms, camshaft and oil pumps. If you are advanced, the Deluxe kit can expand your automobile engine overhauling capabilities to include piston pins, pushrods, intake and exhaust valves, as well as valve guides and springs. You may have the option to add additional components as needed, but you will have to check with your parts supplier for what is available.
Many common engine overhaul activities include replacing or grinding valves, inspecting or changing the camshaft or the crankshaft, inspecting the intake and exhaust manifolds as well as removing and replacing oil seals for smoother operation. You may be able to complete a number of engine overhaul procedures on your own, while others may require you to seek help with removal or replacement and rebuilding of parts for your automobile engine. How much horsepower and torque will this cam and intake combo add to my 352 FE in a 1964 Galaxie 500.(read4inf
the cam is an edelbrock performer rpm cam and lifter kit w/.572 inch lift, it is hydralic flat tappet...and the intake is an Edelbrock performer series dual plane aluminum...the carb is an edelbrock performer series as well...650cfm.How much horsepower do you ESTIMATE the engine will have?(everything else is newer, valvetrain ect.)
First, Nice car, I actually own two 64 Galaxies and love them both.
My first Gal was a 352 car and I can think of a few things you should look at. The stock valve springs (even new) may not be strong enough for a 572 lift. Also, the stock exhaust may be a little restrictive.
All that aside, I feel sure that you could easily pull 375 hp and somewhere near 400lb/ft torque at around 5000 rpm.
Better be sure the transmission is up to that.
