Which Cylinder heads do i use on my 327 SB Chevy?
i have a 327 that i want to build up an i have a set of old 305 heads that is the correct pair to use for compression and horsepower gains if used correctly...i just want to know if i should use them on my 327...i plan on porting and polishing them, along with the intake, but will they do well on the 327? the engine will have a big performance cam as well... any answers will be appreciated. thanks
not my first choice..
most 305's have small valves & small runners..
to make maters worse they are thin cast to save weight ..
this limits porting and leads to cracking down the road..
if you want a snapy low rpm motor they will be ok...
i would look for some 202's with stainless exhust valves and hardened seats already installed...there are some great after market heads availible very cheap these days
the 327 is a large bore medim stroke motor..
this means it loves to rev..
305 has the same stroke but a small bore,
it's a torque motor.
while the heads interchange they are designed for differant aplicarions
