How to identify a chevy small block...?

Ok, I have two engines, one that is just a block, and one is a complete engine. Now, they both have the same casting numbers, 3970010. This is for three different engines, it could be a 302, 4-bolt main, 327, 2 bolt main, or a 350 2 or 4-bolt main. Now, they are both 4-bolt mains so that knocks out the 327, but I still dont know if they are 302 or a 350 or one of each. The suffix code on the front pass. side are both too worn to read, and I found on a website I could use an RPO code (3 digit) that is located on the drivers side on the tranny mounting flange where the casting number is, but I cant find it on either block. Is there another way with out measuring the bore? Or does anyone know how wide the bore is on a 350 or 302? I am stumped and I need to know before I order my rebuild kit!

Btw, the balancer on the complete engine is a 350 balancer, but this isnt a sure fire way of telling.

a 350 ci chevy block has a 4 inch bore

a 302 ci should have a 3 and 7/8 inch bore
