If you can't be in Daytona in February you don't have to miss out on the NASCAR action (you may have to miss the warm weather). In fact, some fans at home will have better seats for the 50th Daytona 500 than the fans in the bleachers at Daytona International. Subscribers to DIRECTV's NASCAR HotPass will be able to experience this historic race in an intense high-definition fashion. This sports package gives viewers access to 28 camera angels, covering four of the top drivers at the Daytona 500. In addition to the in-car camera, there is a pit box camera, a pit crew shoulder camera, and overhead corner cameras in turns 1 and 3. On top of all of this, two announcers will focus on each of the four drivers, as well as communications between the driver, his spotter, and the team. And, for the first time this year, DIRECTV will also feature selected driver-team communications for drivers that are not one of the four featured drivers.
The Daytona 500 truly is just the start of the season. DIRECTV's NASCAR HotPass will feature 36 races in all, every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points race of 2008 all being broadcast not only in HD, but also including the extra cameras and the focus on four of the hottest drivers each week. NASCAR HotPass is the best way for the die-hard NASCAR fan to follow their favorite driver through the whole NASCAR Sprint Cup series.
In addition to NASCAR Hotpass, DirecTV offers the Hotpass Zone on their web site, which will have added features and all sorts of extra material for the fan who just can't get enough.

Chevy Impala Ss Aims Shootout Victory
Team Chevy is now ready to conquer victory in the Budweiser Shootout. With power supplied by Junior, the team is entertaining high hopes of winning.
Picking up what is left at the end of last year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS), Chevy Impala SS powered by Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s (Junior) ground-breaking R07 engine is motivated to hit the victory lane in the Season Opener of the 2008 NASCAR.
Last season’s victory was the 17th Team Chevy Shootout victory. To note, the figure is more than any other manufacturer participating in the race. What’s more, it was the fourth consecutive year and seventh time in the last ten events a Bowtie driver has achieved the desirable jaunt to victory lane.
"Dale, Jr.'s win in the Shootout is an exciting way for Team Chevy to start the 2008 season," said Pat Suhy, NASCAR Group Manager for GM Racing. "It was a short off-season and everyone at GM Racing has been working hard with our teams to maintain the momentum from last season's record-breaking 26 wins.”
"We know that it is going to be very competitive season in the Cup season, but the engineering group at GM Racing has been working very closely with all of our teams on every level. This continuing level of teamwork has been the hallmark of our success,” he added. “Starting Speedweeks with a trip to victory lane not only carries the momentum forward, but builds enthusiasm and fuels our determination as we approach the Daytona 500 next Sunday."
For Junior, the trek to yield victory was as sweet as it gets. "That was fun. The Shootout is a neat race. I had a blast those last few laps," noted Earnhardt, Jr. "I got some great help from my teammates. Jimmie Johnson (No. 48 Lowe's Impala SS) gave me a push there at the end and it helped me a lot. He and Casey (Mears, No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST Impala SS) were lined up there on the outside and that was great for us. I’ve got to thank those guys for the help.”
Earnhardt, Jr. added: “I’ve got to thank my team for building a beautiful Chevrolet race car and they did such a good job all winter and everybody back at Hendrick has worked so hard. This is great for us, man. This is exactly what we needed coming out of the gate. I hope the fans enjoyed that race. It was fun for me. And I’m just so proud of my team, National Guard, AMP, Sony, Adidas, Chevy and everybody that’s helped us. We’ve had such a long off-season. This makes it all worth it.”
The Chevy team is still in for a good catch this season. And aficionados will be jubilant to witness how the team will be able to yield the same.

Do you think NASCAR needs to change the Cup engine rules?
Do you think there needs to be a rule change (engine or otherwise) in the Sprint Cup series to slow down the Toyotas? Before you answer, take a look at last year's vs. this year's results.
2007 win breakdown: Chevy 26, Ford 7, Dodge 3
2008 win breakdown: Toyota 8, Chevy 5, Dodge 4, Ford 3
Only one team (Gibbs) has won all 8 of Toyota's races, while two teams split Chevy's 5 (Hendrick 3, Childress 2) and Dodge's 4 (GEM 2, Penske 2). All three of Ford's wins were by Carl Edwards (Roush).
I'm by no means a Toyota fan (Kahne's my guy), but it looks to me like things are pretty even. At the very least, the playing field is MUCH more even than last year. What do you guys and gals think?
No I don't.
Those stats are very even, and I find it funny that this type of uproar didn't occur last season when Chevy won all but 10 races. People are crying because Toyota is competitive this year. Last season they bashed Toyota for being bad, this season they bash them for being good and doing their homework. What I'm saying is, the Toyota haters hate them win or lose, and shame on you if you hand facts in their faces.
If these people complain about Toyota, more specifically Kyle Busch, doing well this season, why didn't they complain about Chevy last year? Maybe because they were Chevy fans, or Toyota haters to begin with. They just don't want to be able to admit that JGR is a great organization, and Kyle Busch is a great driver. JGR is the only Toyota team winning, right? Were they in Toyota's last season? No. I agree with you.
You shouldn't punish someone for doing their homework
