Ralph Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is a professional American racecar driver. He drives #88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet Impala in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Hendrick Motorsports. He also drives in the Nationwide Series for his own team JR Motorsports.

He was born in North Carolina on 10th October 1974 to Dale Earnhardt, Sr., and Brenda Lorraine and was named Ralph Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He is also affectionately called as Little E by his friends. His father was also an American race car driver best known for his career driving stock cars in NASCAR's top division.

Dale Jr. started his career at the age of 17. His performance within two seasons was quite impressive that he was called to join Late Model Stock Car division. He attended Mitchell Community College and earned his associates degree in automotive technology. He won the NASCAR Busch Series Championships in 1998 and 1999. He also made his debut in the Winston Cup in 1998.

In the year 2000, he became the first rookie to win the All-Star exhibition race. The year 2001 saw the death of his father, Dale Earnhardt Sr., in a race accident at the 2001 Daytona 500, in which Dale Jr. had finished second.

The time 2002-2003 was a roller coaster ride for Dale Jr. He won at the Talladega for the 4th time setting a record and went on to win at Phoenix setting a career best third place effort in the standings. For the first time he also won the NMPA Most Popular Driver award.

In 2007, Dale Jr. declared he was leaving his late father's company Dale Earnhardt Inc., as he believed he wouldn't be able to win his career goal, a Sprint Cup Championship, driving for DEI. In June2007 it was declared he was moving into Hendrick Motorsports. He won the first race for Hendrick at the 2008 Budweiser Shootout and then after few days also won the Gatorade Duel. A series of top-5 and top-10 finishes moved his point standings to fourth from the 23rd position. After he set a NASCAR record for merchandise sales he won his 6th consecutive NASCAR most popular driver award in 2008.

In the year 2009 he faced a series of disappointment and bad luck. He ended the year winless and finished with a career low of 25th in the standings. By the end of the 2010 after the race at the Chicago land Speedway he finished 23rd, with point standings on 13th position.

Apart from racing his other interest lies in the media. He owns the Hammerhead Entertainment, a media production company and produces shows like "Back In the Day" and "Shifting Gears", a new show on ESPN2. He has also appeared on television for shows like "Yes, Dear" and "Cribs". He is also into building Alabama Motorsports Park, A Dale Earnhardt Jr Speedway that will feature stock car racing, KART racing and a road course.

I want to upgrade the HEI in my 350 Chevy to a Pertronix - should I go for mechanical or vacuum advance? Why?

The Engine makes about 375 HP in my 67 Camaro. Big Cam, four bolt, stainless valves, roller rockers, headers. TH350 modified w/ 2500 stalll converter.

Depends on what your using it for. Race cars run at wide-open throttle, rich mixture, full load, and high rpm all the time, so they don't need a system (vacuum advance) to deal with the full range of driving conditions encountered in street operation. Anyone driving a street-driven car without manifold-connected vacuum advance is sacrificing idle cooling, throttle response, engine efficiency, and fuel economy, probably because they don't understand what vacuum advance is, how it works, and what it's for. With your setup, I would personally use a vacuum advance.
