Audi a4 timing belt tensioner and timing chain tensioner?

Hi, I need some help. About two years ago i replaced my engine on audi a4 1.8 (AWM) the new engine was okay but now my car started to sound like it is actually a diesel car when it is not. There is a sound coming from the engine somewhere in the back that makes it look like it is a diesel car. So I took it to the person who fixed my car before, he check it out he thought it was a timing belt tensioner( infront) but this tensioner is in the back of the engine. So he took the part number and looked it up and it says it was a timing chain tensioner. So then i was confused does my car have timing belt and timing chain or what is going on?

You actually have both. There is a belt on the front that times the camshafts to the crankshaft. It only runs one cam tho. In the back of the head, there is a chain that times the intake and exhaust cam together. There is an adjuster that changes the timing of the two for emissions controls. This adjuster is the most likely cause of your noise but it could be an oil pressure problem as the root cause. Check the running surfaces of the adjuster as well as the camshaft bearings for scoring. If there is evidence of this then you have an oil pressure problem, most likely related to sludge. This is very common on junk yard motors.
