Volvo's V50 compact wagon returns for 2010 with a choice of normally aspirated or turbocharged five-cylinder engines.
Standard on the base 2.4i model is a 2.4-liter inline five. Known as the B5244S4, the 2.4-liter engine is part of Volvo's Modular Engine family. It is all aluminum, with 20 valves, belt-driven dual overhead camshafts, and continuously variable valve timing on the intake cam only. With a compression ratio of 10.3:1, it has 168 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque.
The 2.4-liter engine's low-speed torque is modest for the V50's weight, so it must be worked hard for good passing response. Its unusual five-cylinder layout produces a raspy sound on hard acceleration and an unpleasant drone at high speeds, although changes for 2008 made it quieter than before. It produces good fuel economy; EPA ratings are 20/31 city/highway, although Volvo recommends premium fuel.
The T5 R-Design comes standard with a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. Known as the B5254T3, the 2.5-liter five is similar to the 2.4, but has a longer stroke, a 9.0:1 compression ratio, and variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust cams. The B5254T3 features a Volvo-designed light-pressure turbocharger, built into the exhaust manifold. With up to 10 pounds of boost, it produces 227 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Volvo claims that 100% of maximum torque is available from 1,500 to 5,000 rpm.
Despite Volvo's efforts to reduce turbo lag, the 2.5-liter engine feels lethargic at low speeds, although it produces reasonably strong performance when pushed. Most critics find it noticeably quieter than the 2.4-liter engine.
In the past, the turbo engine was no thirstier than the 2.4-liter, but the T5 R-Motion is now available only with all-wheel drive, which is not available on the 2.4i. EPA estimates have dropped to 19/27 with automatic, 20/26 with manual transmission.

Let's Maintain the Integrity of Our Vehicle by Choosing the Best Only Auto Parts
Vehicle are extreme machines where each and every part, whether small or big is designed to do a special function, to make a machine, a working machine. From auto bodies to brakes and windscreens to transmission control units all build to give you a power of speed. As far as all parts are in their best of working condition, you can enjoy driving your vehicles but when the time comes and your machine needs repair, it is best to get your vehicle repaired by only authorized dealers. And if there is any need to change part or parts in a vehicle, you should only choose the branded best quality auto parts to actually maintain the integrity of your vehicle.
Beat quality genuine auto parts enhance the speed and performance of your vehicle and also ensure your safety on road. They help maintain integrity of your vehicle and thus give you a full control over your vehicle. Brake system is one such valuable part of a vehicle that gives us the power to slow or stop our vehicles. A typical automobile braking system comprises of different types of supplementary parts, devices and accessories like brake booster, brake cylinders, brake lines, brake pedal, brake fluid level sensor, brake roll, wheel studs, pumps etc.
Keeping the brakes in proper working order is a must, if one is to ensure safety on roads. There are many things to be considered when it comes to better judge the actual condition of the braking system and here we can take help from those useful sensors that provide us the most reliable and useful information about the current condition of our vehicles, For e.g. a brake pad wear sensor that helps us to know when it is time to replace our brake pads and a brake fluid level sensor that plays a key role by monitoring that the brake fluid level is maintained at its proper level. They warn the drivers (by way of an indicator light on the instrument panel) that the brake fluid level within the brake reservoir is low and service should be pursued. Low brake fluid level could mean the loss of the vehicle braking system so it is important that we ensure that the fluid sensors work properly.
Another important part that depends upon sensors is the transmission control unit or TCU that controls electronic automatic transmissions in most of the modern vehicles. Automatic transmissions contain hydraulic systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems and also computer controls, all working together in perfect harmony which goes virtually unnoticed until there is a problem. Transmission Control Solenoid is a key component to this control unit that actually controls fluid flow into and throughout an automatic transmission and whenever there is a fault in this part, it affects the whole machine. However it is simple to get your vehicle back into its working condition by just replacing the defected part for the new Transmission Control Solenoid.
