For Genie garage door openers. Mounts on rear of opener rail and fits in motor head. Typical symptoms of a stripped Screw Coupler is a grinding noise coming from the rear of the motor head. The motor turns but the screw does not. On Genies with no clutch nut coming out of the back of the motor head, there is a small plastic coupler that connects the screw assembly to the main power head. To check and replace that part, remove the two screws holding the rail to the main power head. Note: If the screw assembly on your Genie garage door opener protrudes out the back end of the main power head, you do not have a "clutchless" opener, and there is no coupler on that opener. It's hard finding a radar detector that does it all for a reasonable price, but the Beltronics 890 comes as close to meeting that goal as any we've tested. For under $200 you get a device that can pick up X, K, and Ka bands along with laser emissions and Safety Warning System (SWS) signals. Configuring the unit is child's play, since most of the advanced features are automatic. We mounted the device on our dash using the included Velcro strips (a windshield mounting kit is also included) and plugged it into our cigarette lighter. The Bel 890 screams to life the first time it is plugged in, but adjusting the volume level is easy. Audio feedback is provided so you can use it without taking your eyes off the road. The LCD is capable of showing text messages and is bright enough to read in any condition short of direct sunlight. The display can easily be dimmed at night, and all settings are saved to memory, so you don't have to reconfigure the unit each time you power it up. The Bel 890 performed like a champ in our tests, although it worked better on the highway than it did in the city. On the open road it displayed excellent detection range from all angles, including the rear. We had ample time to react when approaching radars head on, and the unit was loud enough to be heard over a blaring stereo in our top-down test convertible. Signal detection is announced through both a distinct alarm and a voice that says which radar band is pinging the vehicle. In town, we received several false alarms, especially when driving by strip malls and shopping areas with a lot of automatic doors. The detector can't really be faulted for this, since so many devices use radar. Overall the Bel 890 is a solid performer and a great value for those in the market for a radar/laser detector combo. --T.
