How do the piston get oil in a 5.7 Pontiac engine?

I have a 2004 5.7 Pontiac engine. I removed the piston and rod. The rod has no oil hole as the old one do. Ho do the piston oil rings get there oil to lube the piston to block.
The crank has holes to oil the rods and main bearings and there is a splash shield in the pan to stop airation. Is this a splash lubracated engine or is there another way the piston gets oiled.

im a gm tech for 25 yrs and you got me on this one. i just researched it on the gm tech site and it appears to be splash lubrication. that seems awful low tech. I know they are using alot of oil jets in the blocks on most of the newer generation engines. Thes shoot oil up under the piston skirts to cool and lubricate the pistons and cylinders. check to see if you have any of those

What things have gone wrong with the car? My engine detonated a piston the first 100 miles I had it. It also needed all new rod bearings. I welded a new frame section in for the gearbox because it was weak. Also I had to re-weld the driver's seat.
