Supercharging technology is said to be like a turbo. It compresses air into the intake, that which allows more air  to flow in thus creating more and more  power. Driven by an accessory belt that is taken directly from the crankshaft, and theses have a zero lag because the unit is making boost always.  This is less efficient than a turbo, but they still work well especially when they are inter cooled so that it can increase air density. BMW Superchargers cost are very less than the kits of turbo and the superchargers can also produce similar results although they are not as expandable as the kit of turbo used for the advanced tuning. These superchargers are usually and fairly simple to install, and they require no further modifications to the motor or require no other complicated hardware to function safely and properly unlike the turbo.

There are two types of superchargers which are commonly installed into the BMW inline engines: the screw-type and the centrifugal. Of the two superchargers, the centrifugal supercharger is most like a turbocharger, with an exception that the belt which is connected to the engine’s crankshaft actually drives it.  The centrifugal superchargers compress the air making use of the spinning impeller. With centrifugal superchargers, one can most often swap out impeller sizes and also can change the drive pulley to make them customized for the boost curve that has a particular need for one’s car. Centrifugal superchargers are typically made to generate their peak boost put near the engine redline. Could this engine work for my 1966 Lincoln Continental?

This guy has a Ford 460 Long block and would like to sell me his engines. Would it fit my 66 Continental which has a 462ci V8 engine in it? Its too early to ask my mechanic so hopefully I can run accross one here.

Your 462 is a MEL engine and the 460 is a 385 series, so I don't think it will bolt in unless you use the C6 tranny that went to the 460 and make motor mounts and drive-shaft and some other fab work : (
