Not a good statistic at all. No wonder most people never start their own business. Most people think about owning one but never did the first step. Right now, who's crazy enough to start one!

Some experts argue that the absolute best time to start a business is during a recession. Several well-known, highly successful businesses were launched during weakened economies. Burger King got its start during the recession of 1954 and Microsoft got started during a very weak economy in 1975.

Burger king is in the food industry. Recession proof? You bet. People continue to eat irregardless of the economy. There may be belt tightening going on but this business sector continues. Have you heard of value meals lately?

Now, Microsoft is interesting because the internet is just around the corner. Automation for greater productivity is on both in the business sector and at home. Perfect timing, maybe? But they also thrived during the initial phase of the personal computing revolution. Then the internet found its profitability and this company took off like no other. No wonder Bill Gates became one of the richest man on earth.

Starting a business is difficult enough in good economy. It is even harder if not impossible to start one during a recession. However for start-ups willing to defy the odds, there are many advantages to starting a small business during a recession.

Get started and be on your way. Few tips here and how to save money as well.

Start a home-based business. Check network marketing. Investment is less than the cost of a pair of new shoes on most occasions. I don't consider $300 a cost - it's an investment.

Look at opportunities online. Be wise though. Do your homework always.

Keep your 9 to 5. During the day you make a living. Be the best you can be at work or profession. At night you create a lifestyle.

Hire yourself. Do the job if you can. If there's work overload outsourcing works.

Be creative and smart with your money on advertising. Learn how to use the internet effectively. Social networking works. Great examples are at Dell, woot.com and Zappos.com

Buy, lease or rent office space later. See if you can use an empty room some place at home first. Your kitchen is always a good place to start. Or meet others at a local coffee shop. I have seen advertising consultants do business at Starbucks and Kinko's business centers.

Take care of your health. This is one area that's been neglected many times. What good is it if you succeed and not enjoy it when you become sick. Have that exercise routine in place.

We are living in challenging times, those that persevere will eventually make it. Remember that your own resolution to succeed in good times and in bad is more important than any other.

Save Time And Effort With An Electric Garage Door Opener

You must have surely heard about, if not actually seen an electric garage door opener.  You see them in action in films and television programs, or more correctly you see the garage doors opening.  Have you ever actually seen the motorised unit?  It is an electric motor mounted overhead, with a plastic or metal shell to protect the motor and various components.  The actual connection between the motor and the door will depend on the type of garage door.

Some garage doors open up and out, while others swing open sideways, a few pull up, and yet others roll up.  The orientation and configuration of the electric garage door opener will be based on the type of translation needed to get the kinetic energy to act on the door.  It could be done by a lever arm, a gear-and-tooth assembly, or by chains or belts, or even by rolling a central axis to pull the gate up into a coil.  The latter type of garage doors are aptly called roller garage doors, considering the mechanism of operation.

So how exactly will an electric garage door opener save you time and effort?  The effort part is rather obvious.  You no longer need to exert much physical effort to open or close the door.  You can now achieve it via a touch of a button, letting electricity and engineering do the rest for you.

What about time, though?  Consider the routine if you had a garage door without an electric garage door opener, and no one to help you open it.  Starting from a parked position inside the garage, you would have to walk over to the garage door, unlock it then open it.  After which, you enter your vehicle, start it up, and move it outside the garage.  Following that, you may or may not turn your engine off, get out of the automobile, and close the garage door.  Then and only then can you enter your vehicle and drive away.

With an electric garage door opener, you can walk into the garage and press a button on a wall-mounted control panel or on your remote control unit.  While the garage door is opening itself, you get in the automobile and start it up.  Once the door reaches its maximum open state, you roll your vehicle out.  You pause for a moment to press a button to close the door, and after seeing it do so, you drive away.  You saved yourself from having to step in and out of your vehicle, while allowing yourself some overlapping activity instead of a strict sequence of events.  Even without actually timing these simulations, you can tell right away just how much more efficient the automated method is.

For larger applications, roller garage doors may be more appropriate.  The flexible panels that make up the garage door can bend at the seams, allowing the door to roll into a coil and back out with no problem.  Innovations have also enabled smoother, quieter operation, so you can avoid bothering others and enjoy improved overall performance.

who makes master pro timing belts for kragen? are they same quality as gates?

The short of the long is there are only MAYBE four-five manufacturers of belts in the US. Kelly, goodyar, gates, masterpro doesn't matter. As long as its not made of paper...lol IUnless you needed it yesterday look around on the net. I like kevlar belts (no matter who makes it) and I can usually find them for half the cost normally paid
